Unhappy Women

Feminism Redefines a Woman’s Nature for the Worse

Last week, Elizabeth Laurel wrote a post titled “Corrosive Feminism,” identifying recent news stories that she claims show the moral rot of women who adhere to feminist principles.  From a serial-killer mother to a hypocritical Christian leader and adulterer to a college woman engaging in group sex with fraternity members as if she were less than human. These women, and many more like them, have embraced the false notion of complete freedom without restraint and unisex promoted by feminism.

For the last hundred years, the so-called emancipation of women from the perceived oppression of being female has been the answer to women’s plight. Feminism has continually preached that men and women are the same in every aspect. In their view, a woman can act like a man, and a man should act more like a woman.

Never before in history have women had as many advantages as young women do today. Yet these progressive women and disciples of feminism are the most unhappy. Any serious theologian or philosopher can tell you that this unhappy outcome directly results from living the precepts of feminism. The die-hard progressives and die-hard wool feminists are quick to dispute the claim, saying it is only anecdotal and not factually based.

Research now backs up the claim that young women are very unhappy. The findings come from an unlikely source: the National Bureau of Economic Research. Their study, titled “The Female Happiness Paradox,” concluded that women are far less happy than men. The methodology used involved studying women worldwide over a considerable period and recording the results.

What was found was that women always and everywhere experienced higher levels of depression, stress, sadness, and anxiety than men. Researchers then found this held across time and countries. The authors found that women were less satisfied in the moment with peace and calm, feeling active, vigorous, refreshed, and rested. When they contrasted men’s happiness and well-being, men scored significantly higher than women in both categories.

The results are not all that surprising. Other studies show that married women, especially those with children, are twice as likely to be happy as single women. These inconvenient facts fly in the face of the whole feminist movement, which systematically tries to destroy the traditional notion of marriage and motherhood as some antiquated and patriarchal construct.  The progressives and feminist types inferred that the emancipation of females made their lives happier, but the opposite is true.

What the feminists aren’t ready to admit is that their ideology is rooted in ignoring or defying human nature. They have erroneously concluded that by making women’s lives the same as men’s, women would somehow be more enriched as human beings. The research shows a different result, one anyone with a semblance of common sense can predict.

The reason women are unhappy is that they are under feminist thought, fighting against their own natures and the creatures they are created to be. Recall the moment before St. Paul was converted on the road to Damascus, Jesus spoke to him and said, “Why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the goad.” The biblical metaphor aptly describes women who do not act in accordance with their natures. It is also hard for them to kick against the goad.

Feminism has taught generations of young females to forgo marriage and cohabitate instead; to use their reproductive powers as completely their own to be manipulated at their whim; and to view motherhood and raising children as some second-class vocation.

Continually living lives contrary to nature is as absurd as a hammer being happy to be a prybar. Sure, the hammer can pry up boards, but it cannot do it as well or as efficiently as a prybar. Analogously, feminism keeps selling the point that a hammer can be a prybar; objectively, that can never happen.

Women are unhappy because they have been convinced through the coaching of feminism to believe that there is no difference between the sexes. Their unhappiness results from living in ways contrary to what they were created to be. That is why married women with children are far happier than those without.

Women should receive the opportunities of good jobs and equal pay, but it should never conflict with their natures as being called to complement men and embrace their womanhood instead of fighting against it.
