The Midterms Will Chart the Direction of the Nation

More often than not, midterm elections favor the party not in power. The same may hold this year, and it’s a major reason the polls show Democrats ahead of Republicans. Right now, those generic polls indicate a 7.4-point lead for Democrats. Whether those generic polls are accurate is debatable. In the most recent Presidential election, those same polls were anything but spot on.

Still, the most seasoned political pundits seem to have no handle on the upcoming election. Two years have passed since the last national election, and much has changed. For starters, the proliferation of bots and AI has significantly skewed information, making it harder to predict what will happen.

The upcoming election will show whether the public will vote to shift the power base in Washington and the States and give the Democratic Socialist Party power.  The contrast is clear: vote for the Republicans and keep the status quo for two more years. The problem is that everyone who drives a car knows how high oil prices are every time they fill up.  The war in Iran hasn’t ended as promised by the Administration and continues to affect what the Democrats call “affordability”.   Although the Trump Administration has been successful, the old motto, “what have you done for me lately,” still applies no matter who holds the House and Senate.

If the majority of possible voters buy into the “affordability” argument, incidentally, the only argument the Democrats have, you can be sure of a path to progressivism and Marxism returning.  It’s hardly an understatement that the Democratic Socialists earlier declared an attack on the structures of our Republic.  The intentional toning down of rhetoric before the election assumes voters have short memories and will forget what they really stand for.

Democratic Socialists have taken charge of the Democratic Party, and their mission is to change the country’s founding principles substantially.  They don’t believe in the Office of the President and want to abolish it along with the Senate and Supreme Court.

As if that wasn’t enough, the Democratic Socialists want open borders, reduction and defunding of law enforcement, and the closing of prisons. They haven’t admitted what will replace the institutions that keep order. Only one can imagine it frighteningly.

The midterm election is the canary in the coal mine. If most voters choose the Democratic Socialists, then the voting public has accepted the principles of socialism and Marxism. In a general election where both sides can register their vote and the result is the election of a majority of Democratic Socialists, then the path the country will take becomes more predictable.

Critics argue that midterm elections draw fewer voters than presidential elections and do not fairly reflect public opinion. Although fewer people vote in midterms, the results are essentially the same. Even if the voter is against the socialist platform and refuses to vote, it is a tacit approval whether they intend it to be or not.

A lot is at stake this November, and the results will indicate where the country is headed.  Hopefully it will be a mandate to strengthen the republic, not harm it.
