A few days ago, the Trump administration broadcasted its wishes to freeze $20 million in federal funding to Planned Parenthood. The Trump administration’s proposed freeze of federal funds has to do with whether Planned Parenthood or their partners are complying with the Executive Order outlawing DEI in the federal government and the private sector.
Although $20 million is a significant amount of taxpayer money, it is only a fraction of the total amount it receives. Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, claims Planned Parenthood receives nearly $300 million. The Christian Broadcasting Network analyzed Planned Parenthood’s 2023 annual report and noticed the organization documents it receives close to $700 million per year from the federal government. That is the equivalent of $2 million a day!
Many young people and others are unfamiliar with the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal funds for elective abortions except for cases of rape, incest, or the potential of death to the mother. Planned Parenthood performed over 320,000 abortions per year, many of which do not fall under the categories exempted by the Amendment. This is why the left is so insistent on referring to abortion as women’s healthcare.
Planned Parenthood claims that only 3% of the services they provide are for reasons of abortion. Their figure is a con job because they include all the services leading up to the abortion as medical interventions offsetting the actual percentage. A woman who wishes such a procedure visits the clinic and before the child is killed, she will receive many of what they call ‘services,’ skewing the actual numbers. It may include blood tests, ultrasound, and other medical tests. Instead of the 3%, the number Planned Parenthood claims, straightforward math reveals a different reality. Planned Parenthood clinics report 2.4 million being treated per year, with 320,000 abortions, which comes out to 13%.
No one is surprised that Planned Parenthood would cook their figures, but that is not the end of the con. They assert that the vast majority of the procedures fall under Title X, which offers free or discounted services to over four million patients annually. Pro-life advocates have argued that many of those patients who are pregnant are unduly influenced to abort their child as a form of family planning during these visits.
Probably the worst of what Planned Parenthood engages in outside of abortion is the selling of aborted body parts. This immoral and disgusting practice adds evil upon evil. In 2024, the New York Post published an article featuring video footage of high-level employees discussing the value of baby organs. Planned Parenthood did not deny the claim. Instead, their defense was to go after the person who obtained the videos. Their response speaks volumes.
In 2016, the House Select Committee investigating the allegations found evidence of criminal conduct, but no charges were ever filed. Rep. Diane Black of Tennessee summed it up nicely. “Over the last year, the Select Panel’s relentless fact-finding investigation has laid bare the grisly reality of an abortion industry that is driven by profit, unconcerned by matters of basic ethics and, too often, noncompliant with the few laws we have to protect the safety of women and their unborn children.
Along with the freeze, President Trump has issued a pro-life Executive Order to support the sanctity of every human life and prevent tax-payer funding of abortion. It is a good start, and the reason for the Order is that Planned Parenthood has been conning the American people and their representatives in Congress for years.
Twenty million dollars isn’t enough to cut for an organization dedicated to killing future generations. Remove all taxpayer money until they prove definitively taxpayer money is not used for abortions.
