The Unmistakable Contrast

The heart-rending assassination of Charlie Kirk and its aftermath are nothing short of astounding.  Neither twisted narratives of the left nor the outright venomous language against him could stop this juggernaut.  The world hasn’t experienced a contrast like this in many years.

Kirk’s death certainly galvanized the right, and the response of those who fall under the umbrella of conservatism was peaceful grief. Unlike the death of George Floyd, marked by the many riots that ensued, the contrast cannot be more apparent.

The present response of half of the country is nothing short of a revival of Christianity, no matter how the left tries to poke holes in the reality. A football stadium filled with mourners and the overflow honored Kirk’s life with references to Christianity abounding.  The public square, not only in Arizona but across the country, heard about Jesus and his teachings, not as a white supremacist talking point but rather, a message and map to a happy and fulfilled life.

For those who practice their Christianity, the messages coming from this murder are a reaffirmation of what they believe: love of enemies, peace, and the unwavering belief that Jesus came and saved us from ourselves. The opposite reaction is stark, with increased verbal and physical violence and more destruction. Kirk’s critics, who lack basic human empathy and compassion, could not even acknowledge the senseless killing of another human being.

When a simple resolution was up in Congress, 60 Democratic members did not suspend their political ideology to recognize the horror of an assassinated public figure.  Their spokeswoman, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, in a floor speech called Kirk a bigot and the resolution “reckless”.  She continued her vitriol, “The majority proceeded with a resolution that brings great pain to the millions of Americans who endured segregation, Jim Crow and the legacy of bigotry.”

AOC’s words show her own depravity, but were also used to energize the left’s base, who loathed the message of Kirk, and still do. Those of her ilk and ideology will not be moved by anything other than the continued notion of victimhood, alleged social justice, and the destruction of all Judeo-Christian principles used to found this country.

Kirk’s death will not change the minds of those on the right or soften the hearts of those on the left.  These two sides of the political spectrum are convinced, and nothing short of world annihilation will change the political divide.

What’s happening now has nothing to do with political savvy, either on the right or left. The Counter-Woke Reformation will affect those in the middle. The country is filled with low-informed voters, many of them the youth Kirk was trying to target. These young people are the middle people, neither hot nor cold, just lukewarm.

Those young people now in college and high school are the ones who have, throughout their young lives, had to suffer a life without a love of God and his ways. Parents who are delinquent in passing on the faith due primarily to their own issues or the Church’s mealy-mouthed proclamation of the Gospel keep the door open and create a climate of uncertainty about morality. Instead of teaching the decisive truth about God, they took a middle ground lacking in substance. The American Catholic Bishops couldn’t be bothered to even make a statement about Kirk’s death, in stark contrast to the George Floyd incident, where they decried racism. Conversions do not happen with “maybes” or “perhaps” or stoking racial divisions.

The young who have been indoctrinated by the educational system, teaching them they are victims, and that a belief in God is nothing but a myth and a fantasy, have created the first conflict. They were never taught that their life has a purpose and their creation is not an accident or mistake. With no purpose or direction from the divine, they have little choice but to find a God somewhere else. Sadly, with little hope for a future, they turn to drugs, sex, and lives not fit for beings created in the image of God.

It will be hard for these young souls to ignore what they have just seen in the murder of Kirk and the response. They have seen thousands from their age group giving glory and praise to God, even though they could understandably forsake him for what has happened. They heard about the many places asking for new chapters of Turning Point USA at schools nationwide (62,000 requests).

God himself transformed the evil of the assassination into good. They saw what goodness and forgiveness mean for the first time in their young lives. Most importantly, they saw a distinct contrast between evil and good, the former leading to death and the latter to life and hope.

No one could imagine what had happened. Kirk spent much of his life preaching to the young about a life in God with adrift students. He was one man and visited one campus at a time. His death made his mission available to more than one campus at a time, and his Christian message has reached many places.

If you ever wondered how Christianity spread so vastly after Christ’s death and Resurrection, you are witnessing the movement now. Just as the early Apostles gave their lives for the Gospel and converted many, so does another death allow many to return or be introduced to God.

We are experiencing the work of the Holy Spirit through people and circumstances. Pray that the fire of the Holy Spirit will continue to spread across the face of the earth.

To God be all Glory and Honor. Amen.
