Biowarfare is as Dangerous as Nuclear

In a violent world, one thing is certain: nations are finding ways to produce armaments to kill large numbers of human beings. Rightfully, the civilized world is alarmed by the rise in nuclear bombs, especially with countries bent on dominance and terror. Purportedly, the whole Iran conflict is all about stopping this radicalized nation from achieving that specific goal.

The increasing number of nuclear weapons across the globe is a justified concern, but it isn’t the only thing we should be worried about. Recent information has come out of Russia about a young scientist who unexpectedly died while working in Russia’s biolab in Siberia. Information is scarce right now, but what we do know is alarming. More proof of countries’ widespread bioweapon capabilities.

There is no ‘memory hole’ when it comes to recounting the devastating effects of the COVID disaster that affected every family and person on the planet. Years later, although it was suspected earlier and later proved, the COVID virus was created in a laboratory in Wuhan, China, and not by some ridiculous claim that it naturally emerged from a nearby wet market.  Except for World War I, when chemical weapons of mass destruction accounted for over 1 million casualties, has the world paid as much attention to these deadly weapons of war. That drastically changed when COVID was the source of unprecedented deaths and COVID-related illnesses.

A few years have passed, and many have moved on with their lives, putting the issue in their rearview mirror. The news coming out of Russia should be another wake-up call for those who choose to listen that bioweapons are just as deadly and pose as much of a threat as a nuclear warhead. Because of selective reporting, people are left in the dark about this type of weapons of mass destruction.

The danger is real, and three major military countries already engage in this type of research, adding yet another way to wage war to their arsenals. Beyond the deadly effects of COVID, what was learned is that the Wuhan laboratory exists solely to refine the manipulation of bioweapons. The propaganda that somehow this research is dedicated to saving human life instead of destroying it is incredulous.

The United States is not innocent either. Reports of biolabs run by the U.S. and based in Ukraine came to light when the war between Russia and Ukraine made worldwide headlines. Tulsi Gabbard, when she held the role of Director of U.S. National Intelligence, publicly stated that between 25 and 30 U.S.-funded biolabs operate in Ukraine. Some believe the bio-labs in Ukraine were one of the contributing factors leading to the start of the war.

Now, with the reports of the “plague” lab in Siberia, there is little doubt that countries are leaning into biowarfare as a means of future war capabilities. With a little common sense, the reason becomes evident. Biowarfare is economical in many ways.  Unlike nuclear power, which needs refined uranium and a complicated process, biowarfare has none of those encumbrances. The contagious viruses or plagues are relatively cheap to produce, and the only challenge is how those deadly contagions enter a population.

By killing millions of people without the physical damage to infrastructure that a nuclear bomb would cause, it is a far better use of resources and development. Countries bent on war that lack the funds or infrastructure needed for nuclear capabilities can potentially do as much damage as their larger, more powerful neighbors.

The threat of nuclear war is as frightening as the use of biowarfare, both having the capacity to kill many human lives.  Everyone should be aware of the threat and push for conversations and policies to thwart it from becoming a full-blown catastrophe.

Always include a peaceful world in your prayers.
