What’s Going On in Iran?

What story can you believe

Over the past couple of days, news has been trickling out of Iran about the number of people being killed by the Mullahs in charge of the government. What is known for sure is that the Iranian people are protesting, and a number of them have been killed in the streets and others executed in kangaroo trials.

What is not known is the number killed. Bret Baier interviewed the exiled Iranian Crown Prince, Reza Pahlavi, about what is happening inside Iran. According to Pahlavi, citing his sources inside the country, more than 12,000 protesters had already been killed.

Then, Pahlavi makes an outlandish claim. He believes that those responsible for the killing are outside terrorists targeting law enforcement and protestors. The reason he claims is to increase the loss of life to get the attention of the Trump Administration.  And who are these outside terrorists, the Jews. The preposterous explanation is contrary to common sense. The world’s largest purveyor of terror is supposedly on board with outside terrorists coming into their country to wage war with Iranian security forces and then blaming it on the Jews, which is absurd.

In the days that led up to the killings, Trump stated that if they continued, the U.S. would enter the fray. No doubt, Trump initially took the bait and, thankfully, did not use military action. Yesterday, the President told the country that the killing had stopped, as well as the executions. PBS has reported that Iran will continue to quickly execute protesters. The truth is hard to decipher in this case. Today, the news is reporting that the U.S. is planning on bombing Iran. Who can tell what the truth is now?

In the fog of the chaos, the truth is elusive, but two things can be inferred. The first is that the Iranian people are protesting because their lives under Mullah control have been one of subjection and a lower quality of life due to the economic collapse of the country.

The ruling class is using the uprising to pressure the United States to commit to military action. If that happens, Iran would have the green light to attack U. S. military bases and their enemy, Israel.  The apparent tensions between the U.S. and Iran during these protests have led Israel to prepare for its own potential Iranian attacks.

There are a couple of things to consider. Iran has not changed its stripes; it is an evil and violent country, vowed to kill and eradicate Israel and the West. Although the killings in Iran are tragic, the United States should not be the only country denouncing the slaughters or helping the people of Iran. Civilized countries need to step up in unison with the United States to do everything they can to put pressure on the present government to stop the killings.

The situation in Iran, with the number of casualties, is horrible. However, the Trump Administration must be careful not to escalate tensions through military action. It is one thing to retard Iran’s nuclear ambitions with the bomb buster, and quite another to get involved in an internal conflict. The potential of many more deaths may result from an extended war between Iran, Israel, and the U.S.

There is a lot at stake now with the potential of a new Middle East war. Everything must be done to avert the possibility. Not every problem can be fixed with military force or by blaming Israel for all of the issues in the region.
