Disney Finally Gets Its Comeuppance

 

Three years ago, GMC urged its readers to boycott the Disney Corporation and all its affiliates in an article titled “Time to Dump Disney.” We provided our readers with a comprehensive justification in another piece we called “Disney Hurting Children,” which highlighted their blatant and intentional promotion of leftist Marxist values supporting LGBTQ+, radical feminism, and critical race theory.  

We are happy to report that Disney has finally felt the wrath of the moral majority. This was demonstrated in a dramatic way last week, as the release of the live-action version of Snow White was met with widespread criticism and virtually empty theaters nationwide. The film has been so poorly received it has a dismal IMDb rating of 1.6 out of 10 (with 266,000 reviews) and a Rotten Tomatoes critic rating of only 41%. 

The film is estimated to have cost Disney at least $250 million to produce, with an additional $100 million spent on reshoots and marketing.  The film grossed only 43 million dollars in the US (and a total of $87 million worldwide) on its opening weekend. Since then, ticket sales have dropped off by a whopping 66%. Disney would have to take in anywhere from $540 – $700 million to break even. To say this film is a flop is an understatement.

What happened to this once-revered filmmaker? First, Disney attempted unsuccessfully to update the storyline by changing how Snow White acquired her famous name – not that she had skin as white as snow, as that would have been seen as a subtle nod to white supremacy.  

Instead, the woke Disney writers concocted some ridiculous narrative that, as a baby, Snow White survived a terrible snowstorm.  The new version also jettisoned the kind-hearted and humble Snow White who happily cooked and cleaned for the dwarfs and instead turned her into an edgy girl boss who physically battles evil men. They also ditched the love story by making the male lead into a criminal instead of the handsome prince who rescues Snow White. This version bears no resemblance to the original Brothers Grimm fairytale or the 1937 Disney cartoon.

If these changes were not enough to bomb the film on their own,  Disney cast a loudmouth liberal Democrat Latina activist, Rachel Zegler, in the role of Snow White. Zegler has been plagued by insulting media posts, primarily directed at President Trump and his supporters. In an act of unimaginable hubris, Zegler posted a TikTok video telling people to vote for Kamala Harris. She ended the video by saying, “If you disagree agree with the sentiment, just hit the unfollow button. I don’t need your business.”  As the adage goes, be careful what you wish for. Millions of Americans took her words to heart and either went to another movie last week or just stayed home.

Zegler also tried to use her influence to promote the Palestinian movement. She tagged the trailer to the movie on X and posted these two words, “Free Palestine.” One of her costars, Gal Gadot, who plays the evil stepmother, is Israeli and began receiving death threats after this post. Disney was then forced to provide Gadot with additional security.

Then, after Kamala Harris was soundly defeated in the 2024 presidential election, Zegler posted a tirade on Instagram, “May Trump supporters and trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.” This was hardly going to endear any conservative moviegoers. She later deleted the post and offered a lukewarm apology, but the damage was done, and the die was cast.

Disney has lost approximately $200 billion in market capitalization over the last four years and will likely lose millions more with this failure. We can only hope that this trend continues as Disney has violated the trust of its customer base by openly targeting and grooming children with drag queen princesses and openly LGBTQ+ programming.

The original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was Disney’s first full-length feature. It was both a critical and commercial success, breaking box office records and receiving two Academy Awards.  This film is one of the most beloved movies of all time. Animation was in its infancy, and Disney and his artists created an innovative and visually appealing way to tell a story.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs ultimately propelled Walt Disney and his fledgling company into a media giant. It is exceedingly ironic that this live-action remake might take Disney down. Like they say, “Go woke, go broke,” and honestly, for Disney, it can’t happen fast enough.
