The SAVE Act

It is hard to admit that we do not have a representative government in our country, despite claims that we have free and fair elections. Weeks ago, the FBI served a warrant on Fulton County to secure the election result paperwork, only after five years of Democratic and Republican public officials claiming there was no irregular or fraudulent activity during the 2020 national election.
The FBI does not seek a warrant or waste time if there is nothing to see or evidence to obtain. People with a modicum of common sense know there were shenanigans happening in states where the mail-in ballots were difficult, if not impossible, to regulate. The practice was a true threat to our democracy, whereby the citizens no longer have a say in who will represent them in Congress.
After the mail-in travesty, America cannot claim to have free and fair elections. And if not free, representative government is an ideal rather than a practice. This point is made clear from the fight to pass the Save Act, intended to curb election fraud. The Save Act, which has already passed the House by a narrow margin, has been sent to the Senate, with predictions that it will face many hurdles.
In brief, the SAVE Act is a bill aimed at protecting citizens’ voting rights and making it harder for noncitizens to participate in federal elections. It requires proof of citizenship to cast a vote in federal elections. It also prohibits individual states from registering a noncitizen to vote. In addition, it requires states to remove from their voting rolls all persons who have not proved they are citizens.
Identification is necessary, not arbitrary, to live in a society. You need it to fly on a plane, get a library card, sign up for Medicaid, and even open up a bank account. The fact doesn’t seem to matter to the Democratic Party. Predictably, racism or some other ‘ism’ is central to their argument. Chuck Schumer, speaking for the Democratic Party, called the proposed legislation “Jim Crow 2.0.” He claims it would disenfranchise blacks and minorities, who are unable to prove their identity. Talk about racism.
The Democrats actually claim it would hurt married women who change their last names, making it a burden to prove their status with a new last name. The infantilized reasons coming from the Democrats are staggering. Pushing the silliness aside, the Save Act is straightforward and not burdensome.
The law is common sense: a citizen 18 years or older is the only one who can vote, and it makes sense to 84% of Americans, both Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. The majority of Democratic lawmakers and a handful of Republicans who oppose the Save Act are not representing their constituents. With these numbers, an elected official can’t help but know the majority of America is behind the legislation.
No one expects the Democrats to do the bidding of Republicans, but the poll indicates that 67% of Democratic voters approve of voter ID, and 84% of Independents feel the same. By ignoring these numbers, elected lawmakers are snubbing the very people they are meant to represent. The truth is, they are not representing citizens; they are rogue public officials taking power from the people and giving it to their respective parties.
The Senate needs to pass the Save Act. With 84% in favor of the legislation, how can a representative government not honor the wishes of the American people? If it doesn’t become law, you can only conclude that the power brokers in Washington care little about your opinion and were not elected to serve you.
