Our country lost a faithful Christian, a true patriot, a defender of free speech, and a genuinely decent man last week when Charlie Kirk was brutally assassinated by a violent leftist transgender extremist while on his American Comeback tour at the campus of Utah Valley University. His untimely death has been met with many heartfelt tributes and social media posts from his friends and acquaintances worldwide.
Even people who have never met him, followed his social media presence, or listened to his podcast have been equally touched by the absolute horror displayed when he was murdered in cold blood on live TV in front of thousands of students. And what was his crime? Charlie attempted to have a rational and civil conversation with those who fundamentally disagreed with him.
We all liked Charlie Kirk so much because he said what we were all thinking, but were too afraid to say. He had remarkable courage for such a young man. Charlie also had the wisdom and patience to articulate his thoughts in a kind and loving way, challenging his detractors to a friendly debate of ideas. Charlie asked many questions and always let his detractors present their side of the argument uninterrupted, hoping he could move their hearts and minds on a myriad of important issues.
Charlie’s pro-life position never wavered, and he was probably the only public figure in the conservative movement who consistently argued for the protection of the unborn. He also gave a generation of young conservative men permission to be masculine, embrace their manhood, and make a difference in their communities and families. One could argue that without Turning Point’s ground game in 2024, Trump would not have won the election. That’s how talented and effective Charlie Kirk and his organization were.
But not everyone was shocked or saddened by his death. The internet soon exploded with posts of deranged and vile people celebrating Charlie’s murder in snarky and revolting posts. Some were seen dancing and laughing, while others seemed to imply that he got exactly what he deserved.
Many leftists posted ‘kill lists’ naming other right-leaning influencers to be targeted next. Some demon printed a 3-D figurine of Charlie sitting in his chair at the moment the bullet struck him and hoped to sell it online. There were other reports that content creators on Roblox posted video games where one could reenact the murder and become a virtual assassin. If you think all these people only represent the bottom fringes of society, think again. Many are teachers, professors, doctors, nurses, an NFL worker, and a college dean.
During the live coverage, as Charlie’s life hung in the balance, Katy Tur of MSNBC described Kirk as “divisive” and was worrying aloud about the political fallout of the assassination bemoaning, “You can imagine the administration using this as a justifications for something.” In response to Tur, contributor, Matthew Dowd, first ridiculously accused a Turning Point supporter of firing off a gun in celebration. Dowd continued to disgrace himself by saying, “You can’t stop with these sorts of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and then not expect awful actions to take place.”
What they are trying to say in no uncertain terms is that if you hold political and religious opinions different from theirs, someone is justified in killing you. These people are despicable, and it clearly shows how far the left has fallen from any human decency.
It didn’t end there. The New York Times and Salt Lake Tribune called Charlie a provocateur in their obituaries. The New York Times also accused him of anti-Semitic comments, which had to be corrected the next day. The Nation’s headline was “Charlie Kirk’s Legacy Deserves No Mourning.” The man has yet to be buried, and absolutely no respect or decorum has been afforded by these leftists to his wife, close family members, or friends.
Then there was the TMZ livestream, where the sounds of cheers and laughter could be heard when it was announced that Charlie had passed away. The show hosts later tried to issue a weak apology, stating that the staff that was heard laughing and cheering were watching a car chase. What they failed to tell you is that during the car chase, a local anchor broke into the coverage, confirming Charlie’s death. No one would spontaneously laugh and cheer during a car chase, and it is obvious these cretins were applauding the murder of a 31-year-old husband and father.
If these examples aren’t enough to prove the depravity of these horrible people, democrats in the House of Representatives refused to allow Rep. Lauren Boebert to say a prayer on the House floor for Charlie. Instead, they started yelling out expletives and making a scene.
The radical left has made one thing clear – the only way for them to win an argument with conservatives is for us to die. In a rational debate, they have no arguments that make sense or are based on facts – and they know it. They call it ‘hate speech’ because they hate the sound of the truth. And why is it only considered divisive when a conservative espouses an opinion, but not when a liberal democrat says the opposite? But guess what, radical leftists – the joke is on you.
You have unleashed the righteous anger of the American people. You have created a martyr in Charlie that will inspire others to speak up and imitate his courage and conviction. You can kill a man, but you can’t kill an entire movement; and if you kill a Christian, you are only ensuring that his legacy will continue to live on.
Quite fitting on the day following Charlie’s assassination was this gospel reading from Luke Chapter 6:27-29 at mass:
“But to you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. To the person who strikes you on one cheek, offer the other one as well, and from the person who takes your cloak, do not withhold even your tunic.”
So we will pray for our enemies, the broken and depraved people who have been dancing on Charlie’s grave the past few days. We will pray for the conversion of the mainstream media and liberal activists who continue to lie and deceive the American public. We will pray for the repose of the soul of Charlie and for his family in the difficult days to come. We will pray for ourselves and comfort one another. With steely resolve, we will preach the gospel and the truth fearlessly – just as Charlie did.
Here’s what we won’t do. We won’t riot, burn down, or destroy any American cities. We won’t murder anyone we disagree with. We won’t match your violent outbursts in kind. We won’t meet your hate with more hate.
We are not like you. We are Christians.
