The Never-Ending Abortion Fight

When the Supreme Court ruled against the federal enshrinement of abortion and kicked the issue back to the States, abortion continues to be the center of debate. In just over a week, the midterm elections will be held, and the results will show how much power the Democratic Socialists gain.

In anticipation of winning seats, the Democratic Socialists drafted a memo to Hakeem Jeffries demanding legislation about unrestricted abortion nationwide.  What these radicals want is to “Reestablish a federal right to abortion care and end restrictions that prevent people covered through federal health programs from receiving abortion coverage.”

The socialists are not taking chances, though, and are targeting states with referendums for unrestricted abortion during the midterms. Three states have this issue on their ballots this cycle.  In Virginia, the ballot question is whether to uphold the General Assembly’s radical abortion law and make it a part of their constitution.  If approved, it will virtually establish unlimited abortion at any stage of pregnancy as a fundamental right.

Senator Glen Sturtevant of Virginia said, “It will be the most extreme abortion amendment in the nation. This prevents the state from regulating abortion in any way, shape or form, all the way down to inspecting clinics for basic safety standards.”

Currently in Nevada, abortion is legal up to 24 months. The ballot is asking voters whether the constitution be amended to have greater freedom for abortion. The ballot states, “Should the Nevada Constitution be amended to create an individual’s fundamental right to an abortion, without interference by state or local governments, whenever the abortion is performed by a qualified healthcare professional until fetal viability or when necessary to protect the health or life of the pregnant individual at any point during the pregnancy?” Sounds pretty close to Virginia’s ballot measure.

In Idaho, abortions are illegal, and the election is trying to convince voters to change the current law. This ballot referendum is written this way: “Measure creating right to abortion before fetal viability, and post-viability to protect health; right to privacy; healthcare provider liability protections.” The proposed change differs completely from the current law. The ambiguity of what post-viability means will inevitably be contorted by the left to allow more abortions.

One ballot initiative in Missouri is good news for the pro-life contingency. Their ballot question is to establish a constitutional amendment to rescind the narrowly won 2024 vote allowing reproductive freedom. Included in the ballot measure is a provision to prohibit gender transition procedures for minors.

The voters in Missouri will specifically be asked, “Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to: Repeal the 2024 voter-approved Amendment providing reproductive healthcare rights, including abortion through fetal viability; Allow abortions for rape and incest (under twelve-weeks’ gestation), emergencies, and fetal anomalies; Allow legislation regulating abortion; Ensure parental consent for minors’ abortions; Prohibit gender transition procedures for minors?”

Currently, thirteen states outlaw abortion outright. The importance of these ballot questions is whether the Democratic Socialists will eye these states and work to bring similar ballot questions, hoping to allow unfettered access to killing unborn babies.

The fight to protect the vulnerable never seems to end, but every Christian has a duty to never tire of doing what is right by voting against these proposed initiatives and defeating them.
