Attorney General Garland Broadcasts the Left Won't Stop Election Interference
On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court released a unanimous decision to strike down the Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling keeping Donald Trump off their state presidential ballot. The case originated when three Colorado voters sued under the third article of the 14th Amendment prohibiting insurrectionists from running for president. Colorado’s Court agreed and ordered the secretary of state to remove the former president from the ballot and not count any write-in votes. The Colorado’s decision was stayed pending the appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The U.S. Supreme Court reasoned the country is under a federalist system with limited powers, and for those not covered under the federal government’s purview, the people and the states retain the rest. Referring to federal officeholders or candidates, the decision does not extend to the power of people in one particular state but resides in the voice of all the people in the county. In other words, no one state can decide for the whole country. Changes to the 14th Amendment must come from Congress and not a state court.
The Colorado case was initiated as a way for those with a political persuasion to limit the ability or nullify a candidate not of their choosing to run for the presidency. All we hear from the left is anyone who is for free and open elections is an enemy of democracy. The hypocrisy of this ‘lawfare’ defies all common sense by limiting citizens’ choices, which is a real threat to democracy.
The Left’s ongoing attack on voting could not have been made more evident by the comments of Attorney General Merrick Garland. On Sunday, Garland addressed the members of the Selma Baptist Church in Alabama on the fifty-ninth anniversary of Bloody Sunday. The Alabama police attacked unarmed civil rights protestors as they tried to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge on March 7, 1965, in support of voting rights.
Using the anniversary to promote his leftist ideas, Garland told the crowd that since 2006, the U.S. Supreme Court rulings have weakened the 1965 Voting Right Act. Like many of his ilk, Garland manipulates agreed-upon truths with no real intent to support what they mean. “There are many things that are open to debate in America. One thing that must be not open for debate is the right of all eligible citizens to vote and have their vote counted.” Yet, Garland has no problem with frivolous lawsuits to disqualify a candidate, disenfranchising many citizens who want to vote for him.
Nor does Garland’s DOJ take the word and meaning of ‘citizen’ seriously because his Justice Department sued Arizona for requiring proof of citizenship. It didn’t matter much because a federal judge, Susan Bolton, ignored Arizona’s 2022 state law requiring a voting person to be a U.S. citizen. All that was necessary she ruled that any person wishing to vote needed to fill out a form and not prove their citizenship. She, like many leftists, really doesn’t care about the constitutional requirements to vote.
Garland continued using racist language to double down on the Left’s strategy to inhibit free and fair elections. “But the right to vote was still under attack nearly a century later, when Black residents trying to register to vote in this country, and in jurisdictions across this country, were required to take nearly impossible tests that were designed to ensure they fail.”
Garland’s true racist comments mean it is nearly impossible for a person of color to register to vote with an ID in hand. For him, that is an impossible task for any minority.
Finally, Garland doubled down on the Left’s program of voting, which has been linked with many violations. He said, “That is why we are challenging efforts by states and jurisdictions to implement discriminatory, burdensome and unnecessary restrictions on access to the ballot, including those related to mail-in-voting, the use of drop boxes, and voter ID requirements.”
When he gave his speech at the Baptist Church on Saturday, he must have been well aware the U.S. Supreme Court would issue its ruling on Monday. Garland has confirmed that the Left will utilize the same strategies for acquiring votes as in 2020.
Garland affirms that what occurred in the last presidential election will be repeated.
