Roe v Wade On Thin Ice?

Oral arguments before the Supreme Court began on Wednesday, December 1 in the landmark Mississippi abortion case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Pro-life advocates hope this case will result in the overturning of Roe v. Wade which has resulted in an estimated 62 million aborted babies in the United States since 1973.

According to Lifesite News, this case revolves around “Mississippi’s (HB 1510) law banning abortions past 15 weeks for any reason other than physical medical emergencies or severe fetal abnormalities. After its enactment in 2019, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals deemed it unconstitutional because of an “unbroken line dating to Roe v. Wade,” the 1973 ruling which imposed on all 50 states a “right” to pre-viability abortion.”

Fox News reported that during the proceedings uber liberal justice, Sonia Sotomayor, made the outrageous comparison of an unborn child with people who have died. Sotomayor stated, “There’s about 40 percent of dead people who, if you touch their feet, the foot will recoil. There are spontaneous acts by dead brain people. So I don’t think that a response to — by a fetus necessarily proves that there’s a sensation of pain or that there’s consciousness.”

This ridiculous statement was made by supposedly one of the best minds in the country who has been granted the honor of serving on the highest court in the land. She actually compared a living, growing, thriving child in the womb to a dead person.  Apparently, Sotomayor did not do her due diligence to prepare for this case and has not read a recent study entitled Reconsidering Fetal Pain published in the Journal of Medical Ethics that fetal pain does indeed exist during the 12-24 week gestational period. You can read more about this study at the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission website.

We should not be surprised by this absurd line of reasoning because for the pro-choice lobby, dismembering an unborn child in the womb is a woman’s right regardless of the pain inflicted or the life terminated. Perhaps thinking of an unborn baby as a dead person is some kind of peculiar defense mechanism, because if a woman really faces the horror of an abortion, it should certainly give her pause. This is the lie that has been propagated by abortion providers for 49 years – that the child in the womb is not human, that it feels no pain, that it does not bleed and suffer and die a cruel and inhumane death.

The entire pro-choice movement from its inception has been built on falsehoods and propaganda. The Hosea Initiative (a pro-life organization) has uncovered some of these lies. In 1969 it was reported to the media that a whopping 60% of Americans supported the repeal of abortion laws and actually wanted abortion on demand. In reality, only a very small minority 1/10 of one percent was truly advocating for this. Dr. Nathanson, an early promoter for abortion, claimed that there were one million back-alley abortions and anywhere from 5,000-10,000 women dying due to complications from these abortions.  He later admitted when he had a conversion (after seeing an ultrasound of a baby) that he literally pulled these figures out of thin air. The real statistics were more like 100,000 abortions with only 200 women dying. The pro-choice lobby also fooled the American people by claiming abortion would be, “Safe, Legal and Rare.” Does anyone serious person consider 62 million souls lost rare?

Let us all pray that this historic case will result in an end to the evil death grip that Roe v. Wade has held over our country for the past 49 years. Pray for the courageous attorneys arguing for life and that the Supreme Court justices will recognize the truth and render a verdict that will undoubtedly save the lives of many unborn babies in the coming years.
