Let’s start with the “Hate Has No Home Here” signs. Obviously, those displaying this type of sign are assuming that other people must harbor hate in their hearts if they do not completely agree with and support a series of their preferred political ideas. It ranges from illegal immigration, abortion on demand, radical LGBTQ doctrine or critical race theory. It is judgmental and uncharitable on its face because there is never time taken to fully understand and listen to reasons for strongly held beliefs or opposing views. It isn’t about dialogue at all when insults are meant to shut down any discussion. These signs are meant to guilt the uninformed heathens living in neighborhood just how uninformed they really are.
One of the definitions of hate according to Merriam Webster is, “having a strong aversion to, or to find something very distasteful.” This is not incessantly a bad thing as hate can also be defined as righteous indignation. I feel very comfortable in saying that I hate abortion, pedophilia, murder, corruption, anti-Semitism and a variety of other crimes against humanity.
Then we have the “In This House We Believe” folks posting signs that list off a series of inane slogans ostensibly meant to shame others into acceptance and compliance and also meant impress their neighbors with their amazing intellect. The signs typically read:
SCIENCE IS REAL – Unless of course it is junk science like the study by the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) conducted that falsified data on climate change or the study published by Lancet that spiked the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine early in the pandemic which ultimately had to be retracted in disgrace. Yeah, science is real until it isn’t, and anyone who blindly follows this platitude is the real dummy.
WOMENS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS – Of course, women are human beings and have rights, no one is even arguing this point unless of course you are talking about radical Islam that treats women as objects to be owned – but that would make you an Islamophobe wouldn’t it? Remember, don’t go there because “Hate Has No Home Here.” One question though, are unborn baby girl’s rights human rights too? Asking for a friend.
BLACK LIVES MATTER – It appears that the only black lives that really matter are the former head of BLM who has purchased multiple million-dollar properties. I guess the 797 black people killed in Chicago last year (the deadliest body count in the last 25 years) really don’t matter to anyone including the leadership of BLM. According to BBC news, “The grieving parents of Michael Brown and Breonna Taylor – two African Americans whose deaths at the hands of white police officers were often cited by Black Lives Matter – reportedly complained the organization had done nothing to help them.”
NEWS ISN’T FAKE – But propaganda and censorship are real and we have had an onslaught of false reporting – especially throughout this pandemic. Doctors like Peter McCollough and Vladimir Zelenko and others documented early success prescribing a suite of off label, long standing safe and FDA approved medications like hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin, azithromycin, zinc and vitamin D but were soon taken down off social media and vilified by the mainstream media as being quacks. This calculated move of pushing a false narrative (a.k.a. fake news) has resulted in the suffering and death of many people worldwide.
NO HUMAN IS ILLEGAL – But humans can commit illegal actions and many drug cartels and MS-13 gang members who are participating in the trafficking of human beings across the southern border are doing just that. It is unconscionable to support illegal immigration that results in the rape and physical abuse of women and children. Cartels are also bringing in enormous amounts of fentanyl and other illicit drugs that are harming many people, young and old.
LOVE IS LOVE – How many times have your elementary teachers told you not to define a word using the same word? Enough said.
KINDNESS IS EVERYTHING – Kindness is important but not everything. There are other important virtues like honesty, integrity, sacrifice, prudence, courage, humility, faith, hope and charity. All these virtues are needed to live a truly Christian life. Kindness alone will not ensure that the spiritual battles one needs to wage as a soldier for Christ will be fought. We must not only acquiesce, as not to hurt other people’s feelings, but stand firm in the truth no matter the cost.
Virtue signalers can also learn something from what Jesus taught us about those who like to parade around tooting their own horns while looking down their noses at others. The parable of the pharisee and the tax collector (Luke 18:9-14) sums it up very well. Then after telling this cautionary tale, Jesus reminded his followers, “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” To those of you out there that have these sanctimonious signs displayed, please do yourself and the rest of us a great favor and take them down.
