Cardinal Burke has asked all American Catholics and those worldwide to join him in a special nine-month novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe. The novena begins this March and will culminate on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12, 2024.
This novena could not come at a better time. Our world is in crisis. As the conflicts in Europe and the Middle East drag on, we face global threats of World War III. Theological ambiguity and confusion reign supreme in Rome. The specter of the American presidential election later this fall may bring unprecedented chaos, turmoil, and further division to our nation. We truly need divine intervention to cope with these crises.
In the words of Cardinal Burke, this is not the first time that divine intervention has “changed the course of human history.” Five hundred years ago, Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to Juan Diego at a hill in Mexico called Tepeyac. With the miracle of the Blessed Mother’s image being imprinted on Juan Diego’s tilma, some nine million Aztecs were converted to Christianity.
Cardinal Burke implores us, “Now more than ever, we must fly to the protection of our Lady for her intercession. I am therefore calling on Catholics all over the world, especially those in the Americas, to join me in returning to the loving embrace of Our Lady. Driven by the unfailing maternal love that she has for her children, Our Lady brought the new world under the protection of her mantle and brought millions of souls to Christ. It is this same maternal love and protection that we seek today.”
Cardinal Burke has established a special website for this initiative, Return to Our Lady. At this site, you can watch a beautifully produced video message about the novena. After watching the message, click on the “Join the Movement” button. All you have to do is provide your name and email address. Once you have subscribed, you will receive monthly emails offering encouraging written reflections, video meditations, and spiritual direction from Cardinal Burke.
Please consider joining this movement and praying in concert with the voices of faithful Catholics worldwide to bring stability and peace to our broken world. The Novena begins on March 12. The daily prayer is listed below. You can also download a handy prayer card to use. To stay on track for the full nine months, try to incorporate this prayer somehow into your daily routine, like in the morning before rising, at night before you retire, at the dinner table with your family, or before noon lunch.
Imagine the change we might see in the hearts and minds of our fellow Americans if millions of Catholics sought the protection and graces of our Lady of Guadalupe. Perhaps we could finally end the scourge of abortion, which has been a stain upon our land. The Blessed Mother’s help is always within reach. All we need to do is ask.
To be prayed daily from March 12 – December 12
O Virgin Mother of God, we fly to your protection and beg your intercession against the darkness and sin which ever more envelope the world and menace the Church. Your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, gave you to us as our mother as He died on the Cross for our salvation. So too, in 1531, when darkness and sin beset us, He sent you, as Our Lady of Guadalupe, on Tepeyac to lead us to Him Who alone is our light and our salvation.
Through your apparitions on Tepeyac and your abiding presence with us on the miraculous mantle of your messenger, Saint Juan Diego, millions of souls converted to faith in your Divine Son. Through this novena and our consecration to you, we humbly implore your intercession for our daily conversion of life to Him and the conversion of millions more who do not yet believe in Him. In our homes and in our nation, lead us to Him, Who alone wins the victory over sin and darkness in us and in the world.
Unite our hearts to your Immaculate Heart so that they may find their true and lasting home in the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Ever guide us along the pilgrimage of life to our eternal home with Him. So may our hearts, one with yours, always trust in God’s promise of salvation, in His never-failing mercy toward all who turn to Him with a humble and contrite heart. Through this novena and our consecration to you, O Virgin of Guadalupe, lead all souls in America and throughout the world to your Divine Son in Whose name we pray. Amen.
Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke
