The Curious Case of Candace Owens

The conservative podcast and social media world is reeling. Since the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the various factions of the MAGA movement are in a full knockdown, drag-out brawl. Most of this has been fueled by speculation that the official story of Kirk’s death does not seem to make sense.

We, too, questioned the narrative offered to the public in the aftermath of the assassination. We raised twenty-five questions that, at the time, did not seem to have logical answers. Some of the questions we have raised are still unanswered to this day.  There is nothing wrong with questioning an official narrative, but when the questions asked begin to implicate private citizens in the murder of a man, an ethical line has been crossed.

And this is precisely where former Turning Point employee and current podcaster, Candace Owens, finds herself. In her attempt to make sense of the murder, she has for months been recklessly featuring the names and faces of people who were present at the Utah Valley University event and the employees of Turning Point on her podcast that she “feels” may have been involved.

Many of these people have been experiencing the ramifications of their newfound fame in the form of unpleasant exchanges online and are even getting death threats. Mind you, Owens never really produces credible evidence to support her assertions. She often talks about things that are “weird” or “seem off,” raising enough suspicion in her followers’ minds to implicate individuals in Kirk’s murder, without actually saying so. But by bringing up their names in the context of a murder conspiracy, the damage has been done. And for those who blindly follow her daily podcast, these folks must be guilty of something.

Owens has also alleged that the following entities may have been involved in the assassination: The Government of Israel, the Pro-Israel lobby, Utah politicians, the Egyptian Military, the French Legionnaires, the US Military, the FBI, the CIA, and Turning Point employees, among others. Her story seems to be perpetually changing, and if all of this is true, it has to be one of the biggest conspiracies and tactical operations in human history.

Owens vows at the beginning of her podcast to blow the whole thing wide open, only to string her audience on into coming back the next day, and the next day, ad infinitum, to find out what really happened. Owens also invokes the use of dreams (as if she is some biblical prophet) and religious wording like “this tip was an answer to a prayer, which both seem manipulative at best.

Granted, her podcast is compelling entertainment and has skyrocketed in popularity. However, this is not a game, and real people, with real families, are being put in unnecessary danger. All the while, Owens is raking in vast sums of money for pedaling this storyline. It is unseemly to be making this much money off of her friend’s death.

No one seems to mention that Candace Owens has her own shady past. She worked for Turning Point for only 18 months, from 2017 to 2019. Before her tenure at TPUSA, she won a $37,500 settlement with the help of the NAACP, accusing a group of white high school boys of harassing her. In 2016, as a liberal activist, she created an online doxxing website, called Social Autopsy, for alleged hate speech, listing personal information of offenders, including those of minors. Her sudden conversion into conservative circles is truly amazing and somewhat unbelievable.

Owens also purports to be a traditional Catholic. That was a sudden conversion as well after her marriage to George Farmer. With her current behavior, she gives all Catholics a bad name. Accusing others of murder without evidence is no minor offense. Even if everything she is saying is true (which is a huge stretch), there has got to be a better way to present it than pontificating on her podcast and posting threats on social media.

Our suggestion is to turn off the soap opera that is the Candace Owens podcast. While you are at it, stop listening to the online gossip and innuendo about the death of Charlie Kirk. We should err on the side of caution and, until there is definitive proof, protect all innocent people who may be caught up in the mob’s hysteria. And the hard truth is, we may never really find out what happened to Charlie Kirk, and in the end, that’s okay.
