A Revered Political Scientist Gives Takes His Life for the Democratic Party’s Credo
Today, a renowned democrat operative named Hal Malchow will commit assisted suicide in Switzerland. Politico magazine wrote a featured article about this, which was part eulogy, part democrat campaign strategy, and part normalization of assisted suicide. This piece has caught the ire of many and, according to the National Review, violated many of the media’s guidelines in covering the topic of suicide, such as describing the method used, offering it as a solution to problems, romanticizing taking your own life, and providing the details of the procedure. There is something about this whole scenario that is highly disturbing, as you will soon see.
Malchow, who is 72, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2019. This disease appears to run in his family, as his mother acquired it at age 50. At the time of his mother’s death, Malchow vowed never to become a burden to his family. He became so obsessed with Alzheimer’s that at 36 years of age, with no apparent symptoms, he underwent genetic testing to see if he might be at risk. Malchow was told at that time he possessed the genetic markers that would predispose him to Alzheimer’s. He has been compulsively monitoring his brain function ever since.
Sometime last year, Malchow decided to make plans to take his own life when he found that his short-term memory began to fail. As justification, he cited forgetting his computer passwords and not remembering what movie he had watched the night before. Doesn’t it seem somewhat extreme to kill yourself in response to these few memory lapses? Couldn’t he have just written things down to jog his memory?
Before receiving the lethal injection that would end his life, Malchow first had to complete his proverbial “bucket list,” which included hiking in New Zealand, going to a Packers football game, and writing a book. Then, in true narcissistic fashion, Malchow orchestrated a long goodbye with family and friends. Of his goodbye tour, he remarked, “I tell people I’ve had so much fun in the last three months. I should exit more often.” Malchow and his family members have now made the trip to Zurich, where he will be euthanized wearing matching tee shirts, going on sight-seeing tours, and dining at fancy restaurants.
When asked why he wouldn’t let nature take its course, Malchow replied, “What’s the point? You know, why sit around the house and watch a little piece of your brain disappear every day?” So, this is the crux of this situation – Malchow and those who promote assisted suicide refuse to submit to the natural aging/dying process and face their uncertain fate with courage and dignity. His pride as a great thinker and political strategist would not allow himself to be humbled or diminished in any way. Instead of putting his trust in God in an uncertain future, he has become through pride his own god by ending a life that he has no authority over.
Malchow is also depriving himself of an opportunity to participate in redemptive suffering, uniting with Christ on the cross for the remission of his sins, his family’s transgressions, and those of the world. He also deprives his loved ones of the chance to grow in grace as they might have faithfully ministered to and served him in his final days.
But this is how it is with those in the democrat party who condone and applaud the culture of death. When you tirelessly fight for the “right” to kill babies in the womb, life is cheap. When you don’t acknowledge that your own life has been a gift from God, you mistakenly think it is yours to dispose of as you wish.
This entire story is a sickening look into both the heart and mind of a typical democrat operative. Unfortunately for the rest of us who value life from conception to natural death, these are the folks in charge right now. Don’t be surprised if they win again in November and continue their reign of terror and assisted suicide may become the law of the land as it has been enacted in Canada with their MAID (medical assistance in dying) program.
Pray for this pathetic man and his misguided family. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
