Teachers Union Head Claims Standardized Tests Are Racist

Stacy Gates, head of the Chicago Teachers Union, says that standardized tests are “junk science rooted in White supremacy,” adding that “You can’t test black children with an instrument that was born to prove their inferiority.”

So Gates wants to do away with what she claims is a racist way to measure Chicago Public School students’ mastery of academic subjects like reading and math.

Never mind that a student’s race and often not even their name is listed on the test. Or that their ability to decipher words and mathematical symbols has absolutely nothing to do with race. 

This nonsense, which got its start in the “ivory tower” of academia, posits that everything and anything is “racist” if the collective outcome for minorities is less than it is for whites. But this argument is easily contradicted by the fact that Asian students, who are also a minority, outperform their peers of any race on standardized tests.

Are they exhibiting Asian supremacy? Or are they just better prepared?

In 2022, only 9 percent of black eighth graders in Chicago were proficient in reading, according to the National Assessment of Education Progress. Even worse, only 4 percent of black eighth graders heading into high school were proficient in math. 

This is a such a colossal failure of the public school system that it is not hyperbole to call it educational malpractice on a citywide scale.

So whose fault is it that black Chicago youngsters weren’t taught to read or do math at grade level? The racist test is to blame, according to Gates, who makes $289,000 a year to come up with such rubbish.

Meanwhile, Gates is asking for up to $51,000 in extra pay and benefits for the incompetent teachers she represents, a perfect example of DEI: Didn’t Earn It.

The tragedy, of course, is that the students who are being robbed of an education by these race hucksters masquerading as educators are already paying the price.
