The backlash has been building for a while. From the anger many Americans felt when San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick refused to stand for the National Anthem in 2016, to the outrage over the George Floyd riots in 2020 that injured thousands of police officers, to the grassroots boycott over Anheuser-Busch’s decision to use a transgender to promote Bud Light, the “normies” were becoming increasingly unwilling to stand for the trashing of their culture, faith and country.
The reelection of Donald Trump last year despite years of “lawfare” against him proved that more average Americans were “mad as hell, and we’re not going to take it any more.”
But while the backlash didn’t start with the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk last week, the reaction to his murder – on a college campus, before thousands of students and his own wife and two small children – put a big exclamation point on the fact that the CounterWoke Revolution had already begun.
And what is collectively called the Left – an assemblage of Marxist ideologues, homosexual and transgender activists, Satanists and atheists, anti-white racists and their fawning political enablers – knows it. Hence, the turn to the violence that took Kirk’s life and almost took Trump’s.
Violence is what revolutionaries have always turned to in order to force compliance with their agenda when debate and persuasion have failed. And Charlie Kirk was targeted precisely because he was a master at exposing the rank hypocrisy and deceit of the Left.
These are people who claim to abhor gun violence, but cheer for it when it suits their agenda. Who need “safe spaces,” but have no problem murdering millions of unborn children in what should be their own safest space. Who go ballistic when somebody refuses to call them by their “preferred pronoun,” but feel it’s their right to hurl the most vicious and obscene insults at anybody who challenges them.
Kirk not only went into the belly of the beast – college campuses where propaganda and doublespeak have almost totally replaced true learning – he called them out on their own turf. But he did so respectfully, methodically dismantling their warped logic and unintelligible blathering merely by asking pointed questions they couldn’t answer without exposing their real intent.
That’s precisely why Kirk had so many young followers, and why the Left wanted him dead. They wanted to send a message that they would not tolerate anyone questioning their narrative.
But the enormous upwelling of grief in the wake of his murder sent another message, one that the Left never counted on. Tens of thousands of applications for new TPUSA chapters. Hundreds of thousands attending memorials for Kirk, even in London. The Mainstream Media forced to cover his assassination, while cringy pundits and online “influencers” exposed their dark souls for all the world to see.
Nobody could have imagined that the murder of this 31-year-old husband and father who made it his life’s work to talk to college students about the issues of the day would spark such an enormous outpouring of grief and righteous anger. But that’s exactly what has happened, and what Americans have now seen from the death cult that is the Left cannot be unseen.
Ironically, Kirk’s murder is a turning point in American history. The gloves and rose-colored glasses are off. The ancient divide between the children of light and the purveyors of darkness has been exposed in a way that leaves no middle ground.
The Counterwoke Reformation is here and is a growing force the Left will have to reckon with.
