It’s not only Ivy League schools like Harvard and Columbia that have lost any claim to be bastions of “higher education.” Other universities and colleges have hired astoundingly stupid people as professors, leading to the inevitable conclusion that the “blind are leading the blind.”
Case in point: An education professor at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia has written an article stating that the institution of marriage plays a major role in the establishment and propagation of “white supremacy.”
“Marriage fundamentalism, like structural racism, is a key structuring element of White heteropatriarchal supremacy. Marriage fundamentalism can be understood as an ideological and cultural phenomenon, where adherents espouse the superiority of the two-parent married family,” wrote Dr. Bethany Leticqu in an article published in February in the Journal of Marriage and Family.
Noting that she herself is not married while living with a male partner and children, Leticqu goes on to claim that what she calls “religious fundamentalists …relegate people unwilling or unable to conform to heteropatriarchal nuclear family structures to the margins of society, deeming them inferior, deviant, or a significant threat to the social order, and punishing them for non-compliance.”
What a crock of manure!
Just for starters, marriage has been a constant in virtually every known human society and is found in every culture, not just white culture. That’s because as social science has repeatedly confirmed, “Marriage is an important social good, associated with an impressively broad array of positive outcomes for children and adults alike.”
And non-nuclear families are hardly confined to the “margins of society,” as even a cursory look at the multi-billion-dollar sports and entertainment industries make abundantly clear. In fact, it’s news when an actor or a professional athlete stays married to the same person for more than a few years.
Leticqu goes on to argue that “White Europeans … used force and lethal violence to not only colonize people and control the land and its resources but also violently reconfigure ‘sex, gender, sexuality, kin relations, and reproduction among Indigenous and African-descended peoples and others’ to dominate them.”
But then she completely contradicts her own thesis. As to the diabolical practice of white slavers breaking up married slaves’ families and selling members off to different masters, Leticqu completely misses the point that this “violent reconfiguration” of familial and kinship bonds was done precisely to punish and prevent the slaves from rebelling.
In other words, breaking up the nuclear family was an integral part of maintaining their white supremacy.
To dumb it down to her level: a nuclear slave family was a threat to white supremacists. And it was a huge benefit to the slaves themselves. The historical record contains many stories of freed or escaped slaves who worked to raise money to buy their spouses and children.
Data has confirmed time and time again that cohabitation is “not the functional equivalent of marriage,” and that married couples create more wealth than their single or cohabitating counterparts. Their children do better academically, are more likely to graduate from high school, and enjoy better physical health.
Both adults and teens living with their biological parents are less likely to abuse alcohol or drugs, have lower rates of mental and psychological disorders, and live longer than children whose parents are divorced or unmarried.
Boys raised in single-parent households are also more likely to become delinquent, and their mothers are more likely to be depressed or victims of domestic abuse than married women. For their part, married men are healthier and on average live seven years longer than their unmarried peers – and make more money over the course of their careers.
These are facts that Professor Leticqu conveniently dismisses as she peddles her woke nonsense. Government welfare programs that penalized marriage in poor black communities had a lot to do with the subsequent rise in crime and poverty, drug and alcohol abuse, the high school dropout rate and all the other pathologies that have tragically come to define America’s inner cities.
If non-whites want to stick it to the white supremacists and reap the rewards of marriage themselves, all they have to do is get married. Nobody is stopping them.
And ignore the damaging victimology that Professor Leticqu and her ilk are using to poison our society.
