On his HBO show, Real Time, host Bill Maher admitted that abortion is murder, something pro-life advocates have known all along. What was shocking is that someone aligned with the Democrat party and liberal values finally acknowledged the truth.
While speaking with Piers Morgan, Maher defended the pro-life movement, admitting the forces fighting for life in the womb are not anti-women. Maher said, “I scold the left when they say ‘Oh you know what, they just hate women, people who aren’t pro-choice’. They [pro-lifers] don’t hate women. They [pro-choicers] just made that up.” [Pro-lifers] think it’s murder and…it kind of is.”
Maher should have just left it right there, but the cult of climate change has warped his ability to think clearly, and he finished with this disturbing admission, “I’m just okay with that. I am. I mean, there’s eight billion people in the world. I’m sorry, we won’t miss you. That’s my position on it.”
An uncomfortable silence ensued as the studio audience was stunned by the entire exchange. This must be the first time a well-known left-leaning surrogate admitted on air that aborting a child in the womb is premeditated murder. For the past fifty years, the left has framed this issue with utterly fictitious tropes using absurd catchphrases like: abortion just gets rid of a clump of cells; the developing baby doesn’t feel pain; that abortion will be safe and rare; that ending a child’s life is healthcare; and that it is a woman’s right to kill her child.
For now, forget that Maher is okay with doing away with excess human beings to save the planet. His admission that abortion is “a kind of murder” was a shot heard around the world and maybe a crack in the dam of the abortion industry. Once those words were uttered out loud, all those who have deceived themselves and bought the talking points of the abortion industry hook, line, and sinker must now begin to entertain the reality that they are advocating for and promoting murder.
By design, the abortion industry and its lobbying arm have refused to allow any photographs, videos, or actual evidence of the violence an abortion inflicts on a tiny baby. Although these images are highly distressing, they need to be fully comprehended. It would be like censoring the photos and film reels the Allied forces took as they liberated Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen, or Dachau. The film evidence presented in both these scenarios documents the unthinkable cruelty perpetrated against the human person. But the left is afraid to share these images for fear they would make the viewer sick to their stomachs (which they would) and rethink supporting this barbaric practice.
It is with some irony that the only one who admitted abortion is murder is a comedian on T.V. Why didn’t the clergy, as moral arbiters, clearly articulate the horrors of abortion from the pulpit fifty years ago? Perhaps if they had spoken out more forcefully at the time, 63 million of our fellow citizens might not have died a cruel and painful death.
The clergy could have also told their congregations about the mercy of God and the forgiveness afforded to those who are genuinely sorry for their sins. This would have brought so much healing and help to those who became victims of the abortion industry and are still suffering psychological and physical damage. The result of this incredible weakness is that individual states are now beginning to enshrine into their constitutions the ability to end an innocent child’s life right up until the moment of birth. How incredibly sad.
Instead of well-informed and repentant Christians, we now have generations of men and women who are unable to admit that they either took an innocent life or aided and abetted in taking a life. They have convinced themselves that abortion has been, and continues to be, a fundamental right. Hopefully, upon hearing the words of Bill Maher that abortion is nothing less than murder, a conscience or two may be pricked and their hearts softened.
Finally, we can’t end the post without commenting on the second part of Maher’s statement that he is “okay” with abortion since there are so many people already on the planet. Basically, he is saying that he is okay if people he might “miss” live or die, but he couldn’t give a hoot about anyone else.
This is an incredibly selfish and narcissistic view of the world, and it is not surprising a left-leaning pundit holds these views. It also shows the harshness and callousness rampant in our society for the most vulnerable of all human beings – the unborn child – that these tiny babies are perceived as a burden sucking up resources and should be disposed of.
We can only hope that Maher, who has broken with the left’s orthodoxy on abortion by calling it murder, may now come to the fullness of truth that everyone conceived is created in the image and likeness of God and, as such, deserves the right to live.
This seems like a pretty big stretch, but with the intervention of God, all things are possible. Pray for Maher and all those whose hearts have been hardened, that they may come to see the error of their ways, ask for forgiveness, and in doing so, begin to defend life in the womb.
