God’s Providence Saved Trump’s Life

Unless you have been under the proverbial rock, you have heard about the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump during his rally In Pennsylvania this past Saturday. Thankfully, the assassin’s intention to kill Trump failed, but one courageous father, Corey Comperatore, protecting his daughters, was tragically murdered. Two other rallygoers were also injured and should be remembered, and we thank God there weren’t more causalities.
The Republican presidential candidate took to social media and recognized God’s protection. “Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening.” It cannot be said enough that the bullet came mere millimeters from entering Trump’s skull. A slight movement of his head at the right time prevented the “unthinkable from happening.”
After digesting some of the facts surrounding this incident, it is easy to believe that God’s providence was to save Trump from death. When you think about the statistical chance of the sniper’s success, you must come to the same conclusion. The sniper was situated on an elevated platform (roof) and only 100-140 yards away, armed with an AR-!5, very capable of hitting the target at that distance. Eyewitness attests to hearing multiple shots, proven by the prima facie evidence of one death and two others critically injured, along with some with minor injuries. God must have had a hand in minimizing the additional carnage.
Not everyone would adhere to the providence argument, especially if they did not believe in God. Those of that ilk are quick to respond the shooter was a bad shot, or it was only a random movement of Trump’s head saving him from the bullet entering his head. The mainstream media turns itself into pretzels to come up with reasons besides God’s providence to explain the senseless event. To accept this explanation is to think a string of events with astronomical odds had to fall in place.
Believing in God’s providence is not a new theme in Christianity. A familiar story of God’s providence can be found in the Book of Genesis and the story of Joseph and his brothers, who desired to sell him into slavery. After the ordeal, Joseph, in hindsight, understood his suffering as a slave and was used by God to save Egypt and its surrounding nations from famine. He told his brothers, who were now prostrate in shame before him, “Even though you meant to harm me, God meant it for good, to achieve this present end, the survival of many people. So now, do not fear. I will provide for you and for your children.”
If Trump is elected president, the incident he experienced will significantly impact how he lives and will govern the nation. God uses circumstances for the greater good and human prosperity, as Joseph, through his ordeal, saved many from starvation. Trump’s ordeal may be used to bring about good for the people of this country, and we all hope it will.
Remember that God’s providence isn’t bestowed upon just one man but on all of us who remain. Every moment God gives us time on earth, we are meant to be purveyors of the good and warriors against evil. One place to start is to pray for the repose of Corey Comperatore and his surviving family, along with those injured, and for evil to be rooted out of our country.
